Governor Anoatubby Announces Pearl Filming

During his Oct. 4, 2008 State of the Nation Address, Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby announced that a movie about the late Pearl Carter Scott is being filmed in Oklahoma.

"For those of you who never had the privilege of knowing Pearl, she was truly a unique spirit," said Gov. Anoatubby. "She began driving at the age of 12 at a time when vehicles themselves were an oddity, and then became the youngest pilot in the United States with her first solo flight at the age of 13."

Gov. Anoatubby added that Pearl served as one of the first community health representatives and served three terms as a tribal legislator.

"Those Chickasaws who came before us have blazed the trail for our success today," said Gov. Anoatubby. "It is very important that we preserve the legacy of Pearl and others, because their lives serve as great lessons for us all."

A trailer of the film, with Elijah DeJesus in the lead role, drew thunderous applause. "Pearl" is scheduled to premiere and the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur, Okla. during the center's 2009 grand opening.
